U Veselíka - oldest open-air swimming pools in the Prague area
July is called chervenec in Czech, which derives from the word 'red' and, indeed, after a hot sunny day you can experience a beautiful red sunset. Chervenec also relates to the ripening berries found in the woods at this time of year. July is also a month when Prague buzzes day and night - walking over Charles Bridge, morning, noon or night, musicians and singers will entertain you. In the ancient streets in the Old Town the shade will protect you from the heat of the day.
After spending time wandering through the city and the narrow streets of Prague you might like to relax by a cold-water swimming pool - a 20-minute walk from Hotel Jenerálka takes you to one of the oldest open-air swimming pools in the Prague area, U Veselíka. The walk goes through the woods and meadows of the ©árka Valley, whose steep rocky cliffs are covered with herbs and species normally found in the Mediterranean. The walk is very pleasant, dotted with old water mills and a garden restaurant. The swimming pool is situated under a rock cliff named Dívčí skok, which can be translated as girl's jump. Many years ago this was a dangerous place as robbers pounced on merchants and travellers as they passed by. So why is it called girl's jump? Come to Hotel Jenerálka and we will explain!
There are two 25-metre long pools filled with fresh water from the ©árka brook, table tennis, children's playground, nine-pin bowling, volleyball and refreshments. The pictures show the unusual yet beautiful setting of the pool.
Come to Hotel Jenerálka in July - not only visiting the historic sights of Prague but also enjoying the cool waters of the U Veselíka swimming pool in the heart of the natural park of the ©árka Valley!
