August in Prague

In the Czech language, the literal translation of August (Srpen) is grass-hook (used in hay making). However, most of the hay was gathered in July thanks to very hot weather throughout Europe. The weather is now cooler but still summery and many exciting events are taking place in Prague! Here are some of them:

Something for art lovers

SCULPTURE GRANDE 2006 - for the third time in Prague, contemporary art is displayed in its city-centre streets. In Wenceslas Square you can see large-scale sculptures created by artists from the USA, Spain, the UK, Germany and other countries. The main star of the exhibition is Dennis Oppenheim (USA) who presents a set of 5 sculptures "Aerial Water Closets". The largest exhibit is the National Museum itself, created by Herbert Hamak (D) who has done a similar piece of work on the Town Hall in Milan. The most prestigious exhibitor is Mark Titchner (UK) who has been nominated for the 2006 Turner Prize. Rather than continue to describe the sculptures, why not come and see them yourself!
