Prague Castle - an excellent exhibition on Charles IV
Have you ever been to Prague in April or May? If not, you should come this year and visit Prague Castle where there is an excellent exhibition on Charles IV. The Metropolitan Museum of Art has collected incredible historical and artistic treasures and, after a very successful exhibition in New York, they are here in Prague. For the first time the nation that calls Charles IV its father can see valuable artifacts from his period. Charles IV, who lived in the 14th century, was the son of John of Luxembourg. He was brought up in the French Royal Court, married a French Princess and was deeply religious. He also loved and admired art. He built churches, cathedrals and bridges - even whole towns. Prague is full of buildings that he had erected, funded and inspired, many of them bearing his name: Charles Square, Charles Bridge, Charles District …
The exhibition is located in several buildings - within Prague Castle and the National Gallery. It contains altars, portatile altars, shrines, books, textiles and jewelry, brought together from more than ninety galleries, museums and private collections in 15 countries!
The exhibition is in English and Czech, with quiet gothic-type music playing in the background.
The exhibition is open every day from at least 10.00 to 16.00 - opening times vary in each gallery, some being open until 19.00 and on Saturday until 21.00.
Tickets cost 270,- CZK adult; 150,- CZK students, pensioners; 500,- CZK family ticket. The tickets have no time limited, so you can visit part of the exhibition one day and the remainder the next. The exhibition is very popular, so a limited number of people are allowed to enter the most valuable collections, which means you might need to queue a while - but it is worth of it!
Come to Hotel Jenerálka and we will tell you much more - and not only about Charles IV!
